Which foods have a good source of Iodine?
Many New Zealanders do not eat enough foods with iodine. Examples of these are seafood = fillets of NZ white fish ie Snapper, Terakihi, John Dory, Gurnard, Cod, kahawhai or Mullet; or NZ seaweed – I can recommend the brand 'Pacific Harvest'.
Large fish contain mercury as they are higher up the food chain, and are therefore not recommended.
Consume fish/ seaweed 2-4 times per week.
I like to make a condiment to sprinkle on salads and soups.
Toasted sesame seeds and toasted seaweed - in a dry fry pan on a low heat.
This keeps well in a airtight container.
This is also endorsed by the Mediterranean Food Pyramid along with a high vegetable intake.
