Q. How can I best manage all these pre Christmas social engagements and deadlines at work the next day?

A. Pace yourself in work and with socialising. Go easy on the alcohol, drink water alongside and make sure you eat some food. Protein is a good stabiliser for the blood sugar – keep to the savoury wherever possible.

Take antioxidants such as vitamins A,C, E to protect you from cellular damage created by free radicals (eg. fried/barbequed foods, alcohol and coffee). Milk thistle is a herb and antioxidant specific to the liver for added protection. Antioxidants can offset a hangovers and headaches. Have another large glass of water before you go to bed.

If you wish to avoid alcohol at the Christmas ‘do’ I can recommend Robinvale ‘Ginger and Grape’ juice drink – this is a sparking beverage sold in supermarkets. It is perfect as an aperitif which presents itself in a wine bottle. Otherwise, Phoenix Organics produce a very refreshing “Bitters, lime and soda” which serves as another good aperitif.

Keep exercising. It only takes a half hour walk or run to keep things in perspective. At lunchtime, get out of the building and get some fresh air. This is great for stress management and you will find yourself more productive on your return.

Write lists, and tick them off, you will get through it, organisation and a bit of planning goes a long way.

Consider a good multi vitamin rich in B complex to support the nervous system whilst the pressure is on at work. Amongst this, choose to enjoy yourself!
