Tonsillitis

Article by Angela Haldane, 17 April 2005

Q. I am 24 years old and for the past year I keep getting recurrent tonsillitis. I have had numerous courses of antibiotics and I would like to hold of having an operation. Is there anything I can do?

A. I would recommend Active Elements 7.1. These minerals are used for first stage inflammatory processes and glandular swellings, e.g. tonsils. It is great for a sore throat in the middle of the night!

It would also be beneficial to take herbal medicine that acts on the lymphatic system such as echinacea, cleavers or pokeroot. See your registered Medical Herbalist / Naturopath to prescribe these herbs for you. Echinacea also boosts your immunity. By strengthening your immune and lymphatic system you will hopefully avoid the need for an operation. You could also take the herbal formula Immune Booster (available in the products section of this website).

Remember to have early nights where possible, listen to your body and rest when you need to. Although there is so much to fit into each day, try to plan your week, building in some rest periods.

Eat lots of vegetables, nuts, seeds and good quality protein to keep you strong. It is your food that gives you the building blocks for cellular repair.
