Vertigo - dizzy spells
Vertigo
Article by Angela Haldane
Q. Can you help me find a natural remedy for "vertigo"? I got it a little while ago and now it's starting to come back again. My symptoms are dizziness and imbalance and I'm feeling like I'm in a dream.
A. Vertigo is an ailment that involves a disturbed sense of balance in which the affected individual feels that their surroundings are in a state of constant movement, especially through a spinning sensation.
My first thoughts are that it is due to a viral inner ear infection “Otitis Interna” which can come and go. I treat this with homoeopathic ‘cocculus’ for motion sickness and antiviral immune building herbs. Natural Ange's herbal formulation Respiratory Clear would be suitable for this situation.
Otherwise, vertigo may occur as a result of Iron, Magnesium or Manganese deficiency, or a vitamin B12 deficiency.
Aspartame (artificial sweeteners) due to the aspartic acid and methanol content); or the excessive consumption of monosodium glutamate (MSG) can cause vertigo.
The herbs gingko biloba and schissandra chinensis are known to be helpful in the treatment of vertigo. Prescribed with ginger to alleviate the nausea and immune-enhancing herbs could achieve a good result. Book an appointment with Natural Ange
Vertigo may occur as a result of cerebral insufficiency, concussion or as a side effect of hypotension.
In my training I was taught to consider vertigo far more seriously than dizziness or lightheadedness, and that it must be thoroughly investigated. Seek medical advice for a diagnostic workup, if symptoms persist .
